Course Conditions Update
October 21st -Update
Our greens are continuing to show excellent recovery and growth. On October 14th, we applied a light topdressing to a few select greens (5, 6, 10, 17, and the putting green). This topdressing helps create a healthier growing environment and encourages new grass to fill in any thinner areas.
As we move forward, our focus shifts to improving the overall quality and appearance of the playing surfaces. Both greens and tees have recently received nutrient applications to strengthen the turf and promote healthy growth before the colder months arrive.
We appreciate your patience and support as our team continues to prepare the course for great conditions this fall and beyond.

October 8th - Update
We have completed our fall aeration usin the DryJect System. A hightech method that improves turf health and creates holes using water-based injection while filling holes with sand and other soil amendments with minimal disruption.

October 1st - Update
We’re excited to share that both our greens and tees have shown excellent growth over the past few weeks. To support this progress, we’ve been maintaining a slightly higher mowing height to strengthen the turf and encourage continued development. Beginning the week of October 6th, we’ll return to our standard cutting height, which will enhance playability while preserving the health of the grass.
September 4th - Update
Greens Maintenance Update
All greens have been top dressed to improve the soil quaility to promote enhanced growth. In addition, targeted maintenance was completed on holes #10, #17, and the practice green, where we aerated, fertilized, and top dresesd to promote long-term health and consistent playing conditions. We appreceiate your understanding as these improvements enhance the overall quaility of the course.
September 10th - Update
Following out 8/25 communication, I’m pleased to report that visible progess is being made at Reston National. With a focus on rebuilding tees, restoring greens, and refreshing bunkers, our team is committed to improving your overall playing experience.
The recent stretch of coller weather has been helpful for recovery, through the lack of significant rainfall in recent weeks has presented some challenges. Even so, our team is making steady progress across the course, and positive improvements ccan be seen throughout. Recent seeding has resulted in continued growth on both tee boxes and greens, strengthening turf conditions and creating improved playing surfaces moving forward.
Recent and ongoing work includes:
- Top-dressing of all greens to enhance soil quaility and promote growth
- Targeted maintenance on holes #10, #17, and the practice green, including aeration, fertilization, and top-dressing.
- Interseeding of the putting greens, #10, and #17 once more
- Steady application of top-dressing sand on both green and tees (to continue going forward)
- Planned interseeding of select areas again this coming Monday, as full green seeding is no longer necessary
- Scheduled mowing and slice-tining of tees tomorrow, with significant improvement already visible acorss most areas
We continue to make significant improvements through water managment, cultural practices, fertility applications, and close attention to detail. Progress is being made every day, and postitive improvements can now be seen throughout the course.
We appreciate your understanding as these enhancements continue to elevate the overall quality of play at Reston National.

August 25th - Update
As a follow-up to the 8/9 communication, I want to share the progress being made at Reston National. I’ve been on-site with the team, and together we’re focused on targeted improvements—rebuilding tees, restoring greens, and refreshing bunkers. The excessive rain and high temperatures over the past 45 days have created course maintenance challenges, but with these steps in motion, we’re optimistic about the course returning to the standard we can all be proud of.
- Tees: All tees have been re-seeded, and we’re already seeing the first signs of germination. It will take a couple of weeks before mowing resumes, but healthy growth is underway.
- Greens: We’ve prioritized the most stressed areas, including full re-seeding on #10 and #17. Additional greens are being treated and monitored daily to accelerate recovery.
- Daily Care: The maintenance team has been retrained to focus on the details—filling divots, rotating tee markers, and keeping the course clean and playable every day.
- Water & Turf Health: Enhanced water management practices are in place to protect and promote turf recovery.
- Bunkers & Grounds: Greenside bunkers have been cleaned and edged, and work is continuing on landscaping around the clubhouse to improve the overall guest experience.
Every step we’re taking is aimed at restoring playability and bringing Reston National back to a condition we can all be proud of. Thank you for your patience and support as this work continues.

Bunker Restoration
All Front 9 bunkers have been pumped to remove excess water and all edges are carefully restored to sharpen their apperence.
September 3rd - Update
We are pleased to share we have seen continued growth on both tee boxes and greens following our recent seeding. These positive results will continue to strength turf conditions and provide an improved playing surface moving forward.
August 18th - Update
Slit Seeding Tee Boxes
We have begun slit seeding the tee boxes as part of our ongoing course improvements. Seeding helps strengthen turf density, repair high-traffic areas, and improve overall playing conditions.
August 13th - Update
Spot Aeration Notice
We have started spot aeration on 8/13 (Back Nine). This process will promote better drainage, and improved turf health. While this short-term process will impact play, it’s essential to maintaining excellent course conditions for the long term.
August 9th - Update
We want to share important updates on current course conditions and the improvement projects underway. We know the conditions have been far from what you expect and deserve, and we share your disappointment. This season’s extreme weather—marked by excessive rainfall and high heat—has taken a significant toll on several areas of the golf course. We’ve heard your feedback and, in response, have reduced rates while we complete these projects. Our team is working diligently to restore playability and ensure the course returns to a standard we can all be proud of. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these long-term turf health improvements.
Our top priorities include:
Tee Aeration & Renovation
-Aerate tees to relieve compaction and improve drainage
-Strip, level, and re-sod all par 3 tees
Bunker Restoration
-Remove weeds and re-sand bunkers
-Edge bunkers to restore clean lines
-Re-edge collapsing areas and update gravel, sand, and drainage systems where needed
Greens Aeration
-Prioritize and address the most impacted areas
-Aerate, top dress, and roll greens to restore root health
-Use squeegees to manage excess surface moisture and prevent turf decline
As we look ahead, we will also be improving the driving range by tilling the surface to enhance leveling. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work to improve the course experience for everyone. The ownership group and the entire Reston National team remain dedicated to bringing the course back to top form—and we look forward to seeing you enjoy it again soon.
